Loving High cancels 2013 varsity football season

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) — Fans of the Loving Falcons will have to find their varsity football elsewhere the rest of this fall.

The school district for the southeastern New Mexico town of Loving has canceled its 2013 varsity season following a 51-0 loss to the Hagerman Bobcats on Friday night.

Four Loving players were injured, and Athletic Director and football coach Doug Santo says concerns about player experience and safety are chief among the reasons for the decision.

Santo told the Carlsbad Current-Argus (http://bit.ly/1e2agAk) that his 22-player lineup is mostly made up of freshmen, with only one senior and five juniors.

School district Superintendent Jesse Fuentes says ensuring the safety of students was forefront on administrators’ minds this football season.
