Crimson Bears girls fall 45-31 to Stars

The Juneau-Douglas High School girl’s basketball team lost to Soldotna 45-31 on Friday at the Doc Larson Roundball Classic in Wasilla.

Seniors Kymberlee Kelly and Kaitlin Fagerstrom led the Crimson Bears with 10 points apiece and Kelly pulled 11 rebounds while Fagerstrom gathered four.

The Stars used a 20-2 run through the first half to take a commanding 28-7 lead and hit the first bucket of the second half to hold the largest lead of the game at 23 points. Soldotna led 34-15 starting the final stanza.

Katelynn Kerkvliet led the Stars with a game-high 16 points, Haley Miller added 11 and Kelci Benson scored nine points, all from beyond the arch. Makayla Wong scored six and Lindsey Wong three. Julie Litchfield pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Stars and Kerkvliet added eight. The Stars outrebounded the Crimson Bears 41-21.

Tori Fogg added four points for JDHS, Sam Heidersdorf three, and Maddie McKeown and Rachelle Roldan two apiece.

The Crimson Bears play Galena at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. JDHS fell to Wasilla 50-28 to open the tournament on Thursday.
