The Ketchikan Lady Kings opened a 14-3 first quarter lead and were never threatened as they toppled the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears 46-27 at JDHS on Friday.
Using a full court press the Lady Kings forced six turnovers in the opening eight minutes of play and 17 in the game to disrupt the Crimson Bears offense.
Tori Fogg and Maddie McKeown scored the three free throws in the first stanza for JDHS.
Kymberlee Kelly and Kaitlin Fagerstrom led the Crimson Bears in the second quarter scoring six and five, respectively, to keep JDHS within nine points, 23-14 at the break.
Rachelle Roldan scored the first bucket of the second half for JDHS but Ketchikan answered with an 11-3 run to close out the period leading 34-19.
Jayley Taylor took control of the fourth quarter for the Lady Kings, scoring two baskets within 55 seconds, dishing another to Charley Edwardson and then being fouled and putting Kayhi into the bonus with 5:14 remaining in the game.
Ketchikan would go 4-4 from the free throw line in the final two minutes of the game.
JDHS went 7-18 at the charity stripe in the game, Kayhi was 13-15.
Fogg led JDHS with eight points, Kelly and Fagerstrom seven apiece, Roldan and Julia Noreen two each and McKeown one.
Taylor scored 15 points for Kayhi, Courtney Kemble added 10, Alexis Biggerstaff seven, AJ Dela Cruz six, Sarah McClennan four, and Sonja Christensen and Eliah Anderson two apiece.
The two teams play again tonight at 6:15 p.m. at JDHS.
