The Thunder Mountain High School baseball team dealt a loss to the visiting Sitka Wolves on Friday, taking a 7-5 decision over the preseason conference favorite on the Adair Kennedy Memorial Park diamond.

The Falcons fought tooth and nail as both teams exchanged leads with neither getting more than a 2-run advantage.

Sitka found the games initial run in the bottom of the first inning as Louis Belley singled and Brian Way doubled him home.

TMHS scored 3 runs in the top of the second as Ryan Lee singled, Tim Christensen singled and Finn Collins loaded the bases on a failed fielders choice. Zeb Storie singled in courtesy runner Collin Ludeman and Christensen, and RJ Markovich singled Collins home.

Sitka tied the score in the bottom of the third inning as Trevor Dalton singled, stole a base and scored on Belley’s double. Erickson Fish singled to center field and Belley scored on an overthrow to first base.

The Falcons took the lead back in the fourth as Lee doubled and courtesy runner Ludeman came on and scored on a double by Collins.

The Wolves snatched the advantage again in the bottom of the fourth. Belley reached on an error, stole second and went to third on the overthrow. Fish singled in Belley and Way was hit by a pitch to reach base. Ky Stockel attempted a bunt that was fielded in the air and Fish was caught leaning too far from third. A single scored Way for the 5-4 Sitka lead.

TMHS regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning as Storie walked, RJ Markovich singled, and a sacrifice bunt by Patrick Millay moved them to second and third. Brian Mielke singled them both across for the 6-5 lead.

The Falcons added another run in the top of the seventh as Collins singled and stole second and was brought home on a single to the outfield by Matt Cunningham.

Ryan Lee started for the Falcons and went into the top of the sixth inning, striking out 4 batters, allowing 8 hits and 5 runs. RJ Markovich came on in the top of the sixth with two runners on and got the next batters out. Markovich opened the final half of the seventh with a walk and then forced a pop up and struck out the final 2 hitters.

The Falcons are scheduled to next play at Petersburg on May 14-15.
