TMHS softball team earns respect on the road

Falcons win two games and lose three in Anchorage

The Thunder Mountain High School girl’s softball team won two games and lost three during a weekend road swing through Anchorage.

The Falcons beat Service 10-5 and lost to Bartlett 8-7 on Thursday, lost to Dimond 8-0 and then to Colony 12-2 on Friday, before topping Service 11-6 on Saturday.

On Thursday against Service, the Falcons scored 1 run in the first inning as freshman Lonnie Echiverri singled, junior Heather Alducin singled, sophomore Makayla Harp singled and sophomore Ashley Cunningham singled to score freshman Lonnie Echiverri. In the second inning, Echiverri singled, Alducin singled and Harp tripled for a 3-0 lead.

In the fifth, junior Abby Mountcastle singled, advanced on senior Elle Gray’s ground out and then scored on sophomore Taylor Beardlee’s singled to left field.

The Falcons scored 6 runs in the sixth as Echiverri walked, Alducin singled, and Harp singled to score Echiverri. Mountcastle doubled to score Alducin, Gray doubled to score Harp and Beardslee singled to score Mountcastle. Junior Nicolette Chappell singled to score Gray. Freshman Haleigh DiCarlo singled and Echiverri walked to score Beardslee for a 10-1 advantage. Service found 4 runs in their half of the sixth.

Beardslee threw 6 innings (5 hits, 5 runs, 1 earned run, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts).

Echiverri went 3-3 (3 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB), Alducin 4-5 (2 R), Harp 4-4 (1 R, 2 RBI), Cunningham 1-4 (1 RBI), Mountcastle 3-4 (2 R, 1 RBI), Beardslee 3-4 (1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K), Chappell 1-4 (1 RBI, 1 K), Gray 1-4 (1 R, 1 RBI), DiCarlo 2-4.

In the 8-7 loss to Bartlett, the Falcons took a 2-0 lead as Alducin reached on a dropped third strike, Harp singled and Mountcastle reached on a dropped third strike and Alducin scored.

Tied at 2-2, the Falcons scored 3 runs in the fourth as Gray singled, Beardslee doubled to score Gray, Echiverri doubled to score Beardslee and Alducin singled to score Echiverri.

TMHS added a run in the fifth as Cunningham singled and advanced on a Mountcastle sacrifice and a Gray singled to score on field action for a 6-2 lead. The Golden Bears would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh to force another inning.

TMHS scored in the top of the eighth as Gray doubled, two batters were put out, DiCarlo walked and Echiverri doubled in Gray. Bartlett scored twice in their half for the win as Lavale doubled, Tosi doubled her home and Middleton sacrificed Tosi across.

Beardslee threw 8 (9 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 10 K, 1 HR). Echiverri went 2-5 (1 R, 2 RBI), Alducin 3-5 (1 R, 1 RBI), Harp 2-4 (1 R), Cunningham 1-3 (1 R, 1 BB), Mountcastle 1-3, Gray 3-4 (2 R), Beardslee 1-4 (1 R, 1 RBI), DiCarlo 1-3.

The Falcons were blanked against Dimond on Friday and scored twice against Colony in a 12-2 loss. TMHS scored in the bottom of the first against the Knights as Echiverri doubled to center, Alducin singled and Harp grounded out, scoring Echiverri. Mountcastle singled to score Alducin. The Falcons could not get a run across after the first.

Harp threw 1 inning (4 H, 2 R, 2 ER) and Beardslee 4 (9H, 10 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR). Echiverri went 2-3 (1 R), Alducin 2-3 (1 R), Harp 0-3 (1 RBI) and Mountcastle 1-3 (1 RBI).

In Saturday’s 11-6 Falcons win over the Service Cougars, TMHS scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first, 4 in the bottom of the second and 5 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Beardslee threw 6 innings (8 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K). Echiverri led at the plate going 3-4 (3 R, 3 RBI), Alducin went 3-4 (2 R, 3 RBI), DiCarlo had 2 R, Cunningham 1 R and 2 RBI, Chappell 1 R and 1 RBI, and Harp 1 RBI.

The Falcons next play at Sitka on May 16-17.
