Sunday morning’s 9 a.m. Stage Four Road Race would decide the tour champions. Expert riders started at the ferry terminal, rode 1-mile past the Eagle Beach turnout, returned along that route and completed six loops of the Auke Rec course. Trena Irving held a narrow lead over Jamie Bursell in the women’s expert field, while Casey Colton held a 30 second lead over John Bursell for the men’s experts. Sport riders did the same course minus the Auke Rec loops. Sue York was the only sport woman to do all legs while Shea Hoffman held an advantage in the sport men’s division. Peter and Johna Staley had already locked up the Tandem title. The pack of riders rode together under cloudy weather until Tee Harbor and Andreanoff Road when John Bursell and Rob Sowers initiated accelerations among the lead riders. After regrouping, riders began making probing attacks off the front. Coming into Herbert River, Will Coleman and Robert Sowers attacked and gradually built up a minute lead with the chasing pack keeping them in sight. Coleman and Sowers led into the Auke Rec bypass. Two laps in John Bursell and Casey Colton caught the leaders. In the finale, Casey Colton won the men’s expert race with a time of 2:21:37.

In the women’s expert field, Trena Irving rode with Ryan Bischoff and Rob Welton with Bischoff earning a flat tire. Irving won the women’s race with a time of 2:40:11 as rain pelted the last cyclists.
