Thunder Mountain High School hit a hot streak in the second quarter Saturday that led to a 83-40 routing of Haines to win the Little Norway Tournament in Petersburg.
“It feels good with this young group to get some games under their belt and some experience,” Falcons head coach John Blasco said.
“To Haines credit, they shot the ball well in the first half and they were transitioning on us and getting good looks. About halfway through the third and the fourth is when we … pushed it away.”
Haines was held scoreless in the fourth quarter while TMHS (3-0) racked up 24 points. Five Falcons players scored double digits. Josh McAndrews had a game-high 18 points, followed by Noah Reishus-O’Brien with 17, Chase Saviers with 15, and Luke Clark and RJ Manning had 11 each. Jerry Stephens added nine points and Riley Olson scored two.
TMHS jumped out to a 39-24 first half lead, and after three quarters the score was 59-40, at which point Haines wouldn’t score again.
TMHS 70, CORDOVA 57
Thunder Mountain guard Chase Saviers put on an offensive showcase Friday in Petersburg, torching Cordova for 33 points.
The Falcons bested the Lancers 70-57 during the second day of the Little Norway Tournament.
“He’s a kid that when he hits the first one, it could be a game like that,” head coach John Blasco said of Saviers. “We fed the ball to him and he kept going. He was definitely feeling good that game. He’s fun to watch because he’s very energetic and he never stops cutting and seeking the ball.”
Thunder Mountain jumped out to a quick 20-14 lead after the first quarter behind 12 points from Saviers. By halftime the game was well in hand, 38-22.
Luke Clark added eight points for the Falcons and RJ Manning scored seven.
