Running the Yukon

Over 30 runners, coaches and parent volunteers returned Sunday from the Juneau-Douglas High School cross country team Yukon retreat. The team camped for three nights at the Mt. Lorne Community Center, in between Carcross and Whitehorse, and for one night at Kusawa Lake.

The team spent the time running, hiking, camping, getting to know one another and sharing their season goals.

“We packed in a lot of team memories and are all stronger for it,” JDHS coach Merry Ellefson wrote in an email.

The first home cross country meet of the season is Saturday, Aug. 26 at Sandy Beach. Look in tomorrow’s Empire for a preview of the JDHS and Thunder Mountain High School cross country teams.
