Juneau School District students will vote in the coming weeks on three different mascots for the consolidated football team.
JSD Director of Student Services Bridget Weiss said Friday the Thunder Bears, Orcas and Capital City Senators are all on the table for students to choose from.
In addition to voting on the mascot, students will also vote for the merged football team’s new colors: black, silver, white; purple, black, white; or blue, red, white.
The mascots and colors will be voted on separately, according to Weiss.
The district appointed a mascot committee that met Thursday and once more previously to make recommendations on the new mascot. The committee included students, parents, football players, cheer squad members and school staff.
“We had representation at both meetings from all three high schools,” Weiss said via email. “And with the homework they had done between meetings, tonight was about two hours in length of super conversation, thoughtful consideration and included a high level of respectful communication.”
