Alaska Forward, an industry cluster development initiative, has appointed Will Anderson and Margie Brown as leadership council co-chairpeople.
Anderson is president and chief executive officer of Koniag, Inc. Brown is president and CEO of Cook Inlet Region, Inc. Both are lifelong Alaskans.
“This duo brings proven experience in overseeing multiple industry development to Alaska Forward,” Alaska Forward Project Coordinator Eden Larson states in a release. “Their business and leadership skills will help bring broad industry representation together to evaluate business obstacles in a new way, in industry cluster working groups.”
Alaska Forward is an initiative to connect business leaders in key Alaska industries, allowing them to identify and pursue opportunities to strengthen industry performance and address obstacles and provide Alaska’s policy and decision makers with private sector input and engagement for economic development. As chairpeople of the leadership council, Anderson and Brown are responsible for guiding and promoting Alaska Forward and recruiting business and civic leaders to support the initiative.
The initiative’s first phase was an in-depth analysis of the state’s economy. Researchers identified 11 established trade clusters in Alaska and 12 potential clusters for future development. Alaska Forward has already hosted a working group on tourism and is scheduled to conduct one on renewable and alternative energy today.
