Anchorage police officer fires shots at man suspected of assaulting officers; suspect at large

Posted: November 7, 2011 - 1:00am

ANCHORAGE — The Anchorage Police Department said a suspect tried to run an officer over early Sunday morning and the officer fired his weapon at the suspect’s vehicle.

Police said an officer stopped the suspect for a traffic violation just before midnight Saturday, and as the officer approached, the suspect assaulted the officer and fled.

About an hour later, a second officer spotted the suspect in a different vehicle, and after a pursuit, tried to stop him by tapping the rear end of his vehicle with the patrol car.

Police said the suspect tried to run over the officer, who fired shots. The suspect escaped and the second vehicle was found abandoned in Potter Valley.

Police are searching for the suspect.
