Wilson plans to take on Johansen in 2012

SITKA — State Rep. Peggy Wilson has filed a letter of intent to seek re-election next year.

The Wrangell Republican tells KCAW radio that she will run against fellow Republican Rep. Kyle Johansen of Ketchikan.

The two are in the same district under the new redistricting map. That map still faces a court challenge, and candidates who have formalized their candidacy are listed by the state in the districts in which they’re registered according to the new map.

Wilson tells KCAW that she and Johansen are friends, and that it will be “rather awkward” to run against someone she knows and considers a friend. But she says it’s something she decided to do.

Candidates have until June 1 to file as a political party candidate.
