PAC of tea party favorite Joe Miller soaks up $5,210

Posted: February 22, 2012 - 1:04am

JUNEAU — A campaign disclosure report shows Joe Miller’s political action committee raised $5,210 last year.

Scott McAdams’ PAC, “It’s About Alaska,” raised $1,165 during the first three months of its existence.

Miller and McAdams both challenged Sen. Lisa Murkowski during the 2010 U.S. Senate race. Miller, a tea party favorite, pulled an upset, defeating Murkowski in the GOP primary. But she mounted an unprecedented write-in campaign to keep her job. McAdams, a former mayor of Sitka, was the Democratic challenger.

Miller’s “Restoring Liberty Alaska PAC” report, filed with the Alaska Public Offices Commission last week, covers the period of Feb. 7, 2011, to Dec. 31, 2011. The PAC formed last February, with the stated purpose of restoring liberty based on the principles and values of the U.S. Constitution. Miller is listed as the honorary chairman.

His spokesman, Bill Peck, last month said that Miller had been focused on networking, not fundraising, so donations “have been minimal.”

Since the 2010 race, Miller has continued to espouse his limited government beliefs in interviews and speeches. Peck has said that Miller stepped down after a brief chairmanship with the Western Representation PAC last year to focus on expanding his nonprofit dedicated to advancing “constitutional conservatism” at a national level.

Miller’s biggest donor was Kevin Hite, of Anchorage, who gave $500, the filing shows.

Miller’s PAC ended the year with nearly $1,590 on hand.

McAdams formed his PAC last November. His filing spans from Nov. 8 through Feb. 15. His biggest donors were the Greater Juneau Democratic District and Brad Cruz, from Anchorage, each of which gave $500, according to the filing. McAdams gave $100.

McAdams reported nearly $1,136 on hand at the end of the period.

His group’s stated purpose is to support candidates who “commit to putting Alaska’s people and communities ahead of non-Alaskan special interests as elected leaders.”

Tea party

Tea parties are for little girls with imaginary friends.

God, I was hoping we'd never hear of his name again.

I hope he gives up politics

I hope he gives up politics all together and stars on next year's episodes of "Gold Rush." He would be a great rival for Todd's crew or the Dakota boys.

Firm proof that his backers backed out

Joe raised millions battling Lisa and can now only come up with $5,200, I just had to Laugh, that's mere Chicken feed. I too hoped we'd never hear his name again, but a little comic relief is good now and then
