Legislature rejects Parnell board pick

JUNEAU — The Alaska Legislature has rejected one of Gov. Sean Parnell’s appointees to the Board of Game.

Parnell named Lynn Keogh Jr. to the board last July but Keogh needed to be confirmed by the full Legislature. Keogh’s was the only confirmation rejected Tuesday, failing on a 29-28 vote. Appointees need a majority of the full membership of the Legislature, or 31 votes, to pass.

Questions were raised about Keogh’s past, including a charge that, as a guide, he’d operated a boat with a stronger-than-allowed motor.

Rep. Berta Gardner said this created a cloud around Keogh.

A spokeswoman for Gov. Sean Parnell expressed disappointment that Keogh wasn’t confirmed, saying he’d been an effective member of the board for months.

Rep. Alan Dick spoke in support of Keogh on the floor.
