Ocean Beauty won't process fish after ferry mishap

Posted: June 10, 2012 - 12:08am

PETERSBURG — A Petersburg plant won’t process fish this summer after a state ferry rammed into its dock.

KFSK reports Ocean Beauty Seafoods officials are still assessing damage to the dock. The monetary damage hasn’t been calculated yet.

The accident happened May 7 as the 480-foot Matanuska was maneuvering a 180-degree turn in a narrow passage as the crew was trying to dock in Petersburg. KFSK reports the state is still investigating the cause of the accident. The Coast Guard has ruled out mechanical failure.

Ocean Beauty will continue to offer support services for its salmon fishing fleet operating out of Petersburg.

Processing work that 160 summer employees would normally handle will be done by fishing tenders and at an Ocean Beauty plant near Juneau.

Better deal

The public will maybe have less low quality fish to eat if they don't operate. What they produce is good for fish sticks and not much else, well maybe dog food.

Why Work?

Why do manual labor and get dirty when you can lay off all the employees and still make a ton of money? The P/L statement will look different this year...............

No wonder most working taxpayers have bad backs... they spend most of their time BENT OVER!...
