FAIRBANKS — Scrappy the puppy is living up to his name. Not only did the 4-month-old puppy survive being gagged, put in a suitcase and thrown in a trash bin, but now he’s back home and playing with his littermates. Scrappy, a Labrador-pit bull mix, was stolen.
On Wednesday, the black pup showed no signs that he even remembered being gagged with a bandanna, zipped into a suitcase and put in the trash, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.
Dennis Preslan, of North Pole, had wanted to adopt Scrappy but was happy to visit with him at his home and watch him play with three littermates. Preslan said he knew something wasn’t right on Aug. 12 when he noticed the older-style suitcase on top of the trash in the private bin behind a North Pole baseball park. Preslan uses the trash bin for his janitorial business.
When he partially unzipped the bag, Preslan saw an eye looking back at him and a black nose. When he continued to unzip the bag, Scrappy jumped out and ran off.
Preslan and his wife returned to the park first thing the next morning and the pup was there.
Scrappy ran right up and sat down. That’s when they noticed the gag.
Preslan took the pup to a vet. Scrappy spent more than a week at a Fairbanks animal shelter while police investigated, and his owners verified that he was their dog with veterinary records and an old photo.
Scrappy was given to Lyndsey Moeller as a birthday present by her stepmother. He’s named for a dog in the Adam Sandler movie “Don’t Mess with the Zohan.”
Moeller suspects someone she knows took the puppy out of retaliation. She has since moved so that Scrappy can’t be stolen again.

Maybe letting the dog toilet in a neighbor's yard or barking nonstop? People couldn't steal the puppy if you didn't allow it.
It also doesn't sound like the owner even did much to try to locate the dog. No reward, no missing dog signs reported, even animal control didn't seem to have a report of the "stolen" dog or they would have recognized him straight away.
Still a good ending and hopefully the owners make a few improvements so this can't happen again.
You're guessing
Do the right thing, and without any backup information.
Why do some people always assume the worst of others?
Could it be that only Do the Right Thing actually does?
Spooky!
The thing that concerns me the most is, the person who did this and their future endeavors. He/she must be caught!(hopefully) It just seems to forebear future tidings for a human abduction. Was this practice? Spooky, to say the least. Peace!
Sometimes!!!!!
The reality of not reporting and all the rest of the so-called neglect 'do the right thing' seems to have an issue with is just nonsense. What does he think could've been done? Report it and the state will shut down and start an investigation or really change their routines for a lost puppy? Gimme a break! Reporting a lost puppy is about as fruitless as me wishing to grow younger. Yep, they're on their toes waiting and hoping someone will report stuff like this. luckily the dog got home! And I'm guessing that, from his account, all the stolen dogs are gone because the owners allowed it. I mean really, what a crock!
