Alaska in the top 10 highest in nation for minimum wage

Alaska keeps its minimum wage pegged at 50 cents over the federal minimum wage, which is currently set at $7.25. The District of Columbia and 18 states peg minimum wage to the federal rate. Four states are below federal rates while five have no minimum at all.

Alaska ranks it in the top 10 states for it minimum wage of $7.75.

Lower end minimum wages bottom out at $5.15 per hour except in special cases. Washington State remains the highest as it bumps up from $9.04 to nearly $9.20. 

Juneau business and government jobs offer a broad range of wages and salaries. Yearly wages range from around $20,000 for child care workers to more than $90,000 for the average miner, according to Juneau Economic Development Council 2010 numbers.

Based on a 2,000-hour work year, an Alaskan making minimum wage would gross $15,500.
