Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) Commissioner Pat Kemp announced today the appointment of Reuben Yost to deputy commissioner. He will begin his new role with the department today.
“Reuben has extensive knowledge of Alaska transportation issues,” said Kemp. “He has been involved with regional transportation plans, rural aviation, design and construction of capital projects, maintenance and operations of state owned assets, and supervising the environmental analysis for numerous highways, airports, state ferries, ferry terminals and harbors. The department will benefit greatly from his expertise.”
As deputy commissioner, Yost will oversee the divisions of Measurement Standards and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Alaska Marine Highway System and Special Projects. He is based in Juneau. Yost has been with ADOT&PF since 1994 and previously served as the Southeast region director of construction, maintenance and operations. Yost was previously a commercial fisherman and a teacher in Alaska. He served on the Pelican City Council from 1985-1988 and was mayor in 1988-1989. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial education and a master’s in zoology.

Is he then replacing Mike Neussl as the head of the ferry system? Is that the job he's filling? I didn't recall Neussl having all of those other roles under him.
Best pick since Robin Taylor
The guy who is most associated with the Juneau Access Road- where the theme has been "start it now and spend a billion dollars later"- is now in charge of the AMHS, where he will gladly implement the new policy of "we won't add one dollar more to an obsolete cost estimate that we gave for a new vessel."
Great pick. The good old boys are clearly back in the the DOT saddle.
Yahoo.
Great pick...
Someone who's proven their capability in the agency and familiar with all the responsibilties at DOT.

Very well qualified .
An excellent choice.
amazing
now we have another member of the Parnell team in place to quell any progress for the AMHS. I'm sure the Parnell team will aggressively peruse the two small ferry pan over one larger ferry. After all experts all know smaller vessels are more seaworthy and passenger friendlily to meet the needs of Alaskans outside of the inside passage. The Parnell focus is tourism and not the needs of Alaskans.
Another Hatchet Man for the AMHS
He came to Skagway and said he would answer our questions. He never did.
Pulled out of his a at the last minute a plan to land the road at the end of town with an overpass in front of the White Pass shops resulting in taking out housing in a town with not enough housing.
He doesn't care about communities only about construction companies getting theirs.
Yes Man
The AMHS will continue to degrade under Parnell with this pick.
The plan is to make the system fail to justify the corporate welfare
road to the Kensington mine.
Meeting Thursday 1/17 1pm
There is a Joint Transportation Committee Hearing this Thursday at 1:00 pm in room 124 of the Capitol Building to discuss the unilateral change in direction of the Alaska Class Ferry.
Juenau Access Project
Seaworthy & Reliable Ferries support the access to Juneau. There is no road right now and if there was it would be closed due to Snow/Avalanche Danger so the incoming Legislature staff will have to fly in or ride a Ferry to get here.
"continue to degrade"...... ?
"make the system fail to justify the corporate welfare road "....?
" Juenau Access Project"......?
When did they stop pee testing ferry workers?
