Two downed power lines cut electrical service to 2,000 Alaska Electric Light and Power customers Wednesday morning in Douglas.
AEL&P’s West Juneau One substation opened at 8:04 a.m, AEL&P spokesperson Debbie Ferreira said. Company linemen found both lines de-energized at the corner of Fifth Street and Treadwell Street.
The crew isolated the problem and restored power to a majority of those affected by at 8:50 a.m.
Customers at the top of Fifth Street remained without power until 10:20 a.m. as crews worked to replace several spans of line.
Ferreira said AEL&P has no word yet on the cause.
