KENAI — Students are signing up for new apartment-style residence halls at the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Soldotna.
Three applications were completed Monday, the first day of registration, and about 25 people are on a list to sign up for the dorms on the Kenai River campus.
“The very first student who registered, registered at 12:45 this morning,” Suzie Kendrick, advancement program manager for the college, told the Peninsula Clarion on Monday. “That person was excited and up and wanting to complete it.”
College officials weren’t expecting the dorms to fill quickly, and the residence life director estimates at least half of the 96 beds will be filled, Kendrick said.
“Typically they’ll get a few more here and there and then come the first of June, there will be a flurry of activity,” Kendrick said.
The apartment-style residences have 96 beds available. Four students will share a common living area and kitchen.
The apartments are fully furnished, and will cost students $3,200 a semester. There’s also an option for meal plans.
The buildings also have laundry facilities and an exercise room in common areas. There is keyed access to exterior doors, each apartment and bedroom.
The dorms open Aug. 15.
