Juneau gathers more than three times the signatures necessary

Organizers against Senate Bill 21 in Juneau sent off the last of their petitions to Anchorage Wednesday afternoon. As part of the statewide Vote Yes! Repeal the Giveaway effort, 67 signature gatherers in Juneau collected 5,850 signatures.

“I would say the turnout in Juneau has been really tremendous,” said Gordon Harrison, a Juneau resident who was active in the campaign. “People actually sought us out and it’s not surprising because they understand what keeps the Juneau economy going. It’s state spending.”

Harrison said Juneau volunteers had a goal of 1,801 signatures, which is ten percent of the votes from Districts 31 and 32 in the last election.
