KETCHIKAN — It’s official. Ketchikan owns the Guinness Book of World Records for the most participants to run a race in their rain boots.

On May 18, 1,976 people showed up for the race, a 1K dash in their boots on the Third Avenue Bypass.

KRBD reports the folks at Guinness Book of World Records last Thursday certified that Ketchikan broke the record previously set in Britain. The 2009 race in Lincolnshire drew 1,366 rain boot racers.

The official paperwork is en route to Ketchikan, but the Guinness website already has been updated.
