State board seeks comment on two proposed regulations

The State Board of Education & Early Development is seeking public comment on two proposed regulations through 4 p.m. November 1.

One proposed regulation would align regulations regarding residential schools with new state legislation. The proposed regulation removes the limit on the number of such schools, allows for district-wide residential schools, and allows for schools that accept students for variable terms during the school year.

The other proposed regulation would clarify recently adopted regulations regarding early-literacy screening by school districts. The proposed regulation clarifies the frequency of such screenings, provides two tracks by which a screening tool may be approved by the department, and clarifies the manner in which data must be provided to the department.

Public comments can be submitted at https://education.alaska.gov/regs/comment.cfm.
