Education subcommittee to meet this week

JUNEAU — A Senate subcommittee is meeting this week in Anchorage to discuss education options.
Tuesday's agenda for the Senate Finance Subcommittee on education is scheduled to include a look at Maryland's education system, which is held out as a top-performing system, as well as educational options in Alaska's Mat-Su school district. Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to include other educational options in Alaska and comments from the state's education commissioner.
The subcommittee has been meeting during the interim and chair Mike Dunleavy says it's time the panel hears from parents, teachers, students and others what they think about Alaska's existing education system and what type they would like to see in the future.
