Public defender appointed as Bethel judge

ANCHORAGE — An assistant public defender has been appointed to the District Court bench in Bethel.

The governor’s office says Nathaniel Peters will be Bethel’s newest District Court judge.

Peters worked as a Superior Court clerk and deputy magistrate in Palmer before taking a job with the public defender’s office in Palmer from 2003 to 2006.

He quit to work in civil law in Ireland and returned to Alaska in 2008 to work as a public defender in Palmer.

The governor’s office says he earned a bachelor’s degree from Truman State University and law degree from Ohio Northern University.
