Anchorage taxi driver beaten, robbed

ANCHORAGE — A 54-year-old Anchorage cab driver is recovering from a robbery and beating that left him unconscious.

Anchorage police spokeswoman Anita Shell tells the Anchorage Daily News ( that Atiqullah Khalil spent several days in the hospital last week with head injuries.

He told police he picked up three men Nov. 19 at the Hilton Hotel and they asked him to take them to the Arctic Tern Inn.

Near the second hotel the men asked him to turn into an alley. Khalil says the men punched him repeatedly, and after he tried to run, continued hitting him until he was unconscious.

Witnesses say the men went through Khalil’s pockets and took his wallet. At witness called police at 4:15 a.m.

Khalil described the men as Samoan and in their 20s.
