Senate Education continues work on governor's bill

JUNEAU — The Senate Education Committee will continue work Friday on Gov. Sean Parnell’s omnibus education bill.

The committee will take testimony on the tax credit portion of the bill.

Senate Bill 139 will allow corporations to receive a tax credit from the state for assisting students with the expenses of attending school for paying for early childhood education.

The per-student allocation portion of Senate Bill 139 will be reviewed later by the Senate Finance Committee.

The Education Committee also will consider Senate Bill 113 sponsored by Sen. John Coghill. The measure by the North Pole Republican calls for a 50 percent increase in state assistance to boarding schools for each student.

The funds assist residential schools to offset housing costs for the students.
