Alaska residents dreaming of building a cabin in the woods or just owning their own piece of the state will soon have the opportunity to turn those dreams into a reality.
The state Department of Natural Resources announced this week that the 2014 Annual State Land Auction will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Alaskans can submit bids to purchase up to two of the 239 parcels of land up for auction. The bids must be sealed, and can be submitted in person, by mail or online by 5 p.m., July 16.
Sixty of the parcels are new to the auction this year, and tracts range from the Southeast coastline to Interior river corridors. Some parcels are accessible by road and others are more remote.
The apparent high bids will be announced July 23. Parcels still available after the auction will then go on sale through a pair of over-the-counter programs. DNR is offering in-house financing for residents who want to purchase land but are unable to do so in a full, up-front payment.
