FAIRBANKS — A false rape accusation led a Barrow man to beat his cousin to death after a drug party at a Fairbanks hotel, according to charging documents.
Abraham S. Stine, 39, faces a second-degree murder charge for beating Wesley Lord, 37, to death early Wednesday morning. Stine’s girlfriend, Dominique Natalie Vasquez, 31, of Barrow, faces the same charge for trying to silence and possibly choke Lord while Stine beat him, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported.
Online court records Friday morning didn’t list attorneys for either Stine or Vasquez.
Vasquez, Lord and two other men — including Vasquez’s third-party custodian — were smoking methamphetamine and drinking alcohol in a hotel room. Lord and Vasquez engaged in consensual sex when one of the other men went to shower while the other man stayed in the room. The man who remained told Alaska State Troopers that no time did Vasquez tell the other man to stop the sex act, according to charging documents.
When the other man got out of the shower, they stopped having sex. Stine showed up outside the window at the same time.
Vasquez, who was not wearing pants, told the other men to tell Stine that Lord had raped her, the charging documents say. Both men complied.
Stine climbed through the window and attacked Lord, the documents say. Lord didn’t fight back as Stine punched him in the face for five to 10 minutes. The other two men, who weren’t named, told investigators Vasquez covered Lord’s mouth with her hand and appeared to choke him.
The two men left the scene in a cab, and Stine called troopers to report the rape.
Troopers arrived to find Lord naked, bloodied and apparently passed out on the floor. When they went to handcuff him, they found his hands were stiff and he wasn’t breathing, the charging documents say. Responding medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Later, troopers say Vasquez said she put her hand over Lord’s mouth and lied to Stine because she feared what he would do to her if he found out she had cheated on him.
