JUNEAU — Members of the Senate Finance Committee defended the budget the Senate passed, included proposed cuts to education, as responsible, laying out a stark fiscal picture for the state.
Failure to reach an agreement on a budget deal sent the Legislature into overtime. One of the main sticking points has been education funding.
The Senate proposed cutting $47.5 million for schools next year. That was on top of a planned cut in the one-time schools funds just approved last session. Gov. Bill Walker first proposed that cut.
