'King of the Jungle' musical practices start

JUNEAU - Practices for the Juneau Church of the Nazarene's new musical, "King of the Jungle," will begin at 6:45 p.m. tonight at the Juneau Church of the Nazarene, 3220 Mendenhall Loop Road.
Practice will be from 6:45-8 p.m. every Wednesday until April and is for kids age 4 to eighth grade.

Juneau Democrats meet Thursday
JUNEAU - Juneau Democrats will meet at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Hall, 811 W. 12th St.
Items to be discussed include planning for the Feb. 5 District 3 and 4 caucuses, pre-session legislative brunch, Democratic auction and other events.

Learning Connection offers ESL classes
JUNEAU - English as a second language classes begin again after the holiday on Jan. 8 at The Learning Connection office, 210 Ferry Way, downtown.
English for beginners will be taught from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. English for intermediate-level learners will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Learning Connection accommodates all levels of English language learners and will provide individual tutors at the learner's request. Additional class times and places may be scheduled in order to meet student needs.

Sitka Fine Arts Camp registration opens
SITKA - The Sitka Fine Arts Camp recently announced the dates and registration information for its 33rd annual camp, to be held in June and July 2008.
The fourth annual mini camp, for elementary school students entering grades 1-6 in the fall, will be held June 9 through June 13. The middle school camp, for students entering grades 6-9, takes place Sunday, June 15 through Saturday, June 28. The high school camp, for students entering grades 9-12, takes place June 29 through July 13.
Registration for all three camp sessions opened on Jan. 1 and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Online registration is available at www.fineartscamp.org, along with a full listing of 2008 camp fees. Registration is also available via the camp office at (907) 747-3085. Please note that the camp office will be closed until Jan. 7.
In 2007, the Sitka Fine Arts Camp included 402 campers from 27 Alaskan communities and 16 states. Forty-three faculty members from throughout the country taught more than 60 classes per session in music, theater, dance, writing, visual arts and Alaska Native arts. The camp takes place on the campus of Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka and features its worldclass faculty in nightly ArtShare performances open to the community.
