ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers said searchers have recovered the body of a 75-year-old Naknek man who apparently drowned in the Naknek River.

Wilbur "Arch" Willson left Naknek at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday for a hunting trip to a cabin 13 miles up Big Creek.

His wife, Violet Willson, reported him missing that night after he failed to call in.

Troopers found Willson's vehicle parked near the Naknek River. They also discovered all-terrain vehicle tracks heading onto the ice. Searchers followed the tracks to an open hole in the ice.

A helicopter Wednesday spotted the body underwater in the river.

An autopsy in Anchorage was planned.

Naknek is a Bristol Bay community of 552 nearly 300 miles southwest of Anchorage.
