Around the clock

At Club 2000, they were partying like it was 1999.

The former Tabby's Dreamland Lounge kicked off the new year under a forward-looking name over the weekend.

Bob Harris, co-owner of the Mendenhall Mall establishment, said he decided to go with Club 2000 after ordering New Year's Eve party hats with 2000 on them. But the name won't be changing annually, he said.

Harris said the recent remodeling at Hoochi's Sports Pub, now Marlintini's Lounge, was not a factor in the name change. ``There's plenty of room for both of us,'' he said.

Bob and Ginetta Harris opened Tabby's Restaurant in 1995. A sports lounge was added in 1997. A year ago, the Harrises launched Tabby's Dreamland Lounge with a 4,400-square-foot expansion into space previously occupied by the National Weather Service.

Although named after a famous Juneau venue of the 1960s, the Dreamland Lounge didn't really catch on, Harris said. People still called it Tabby's. Club 2000 is more attention-getting, he said.
