Juneau Sailing Club meeting: Meet at 7:30 p.m. today, Jan. 4, in the Captain's Room at the Breakwater Inn. Agenda includes Juneau port director Joe Graham speaking about plans for Douglas expansion project and future plans for Juneau's harbors. Info: Commodore Damon Cruz, 790-4564.

Mighty Mite youth ski team registration: Registration is open for this winter's Mighty Mite ski team program for skiers ages 6-12 years old. The lessons at Eaglecrest Ski School focus on skier technique and introduce the children to racing. The 10-week program features Saturday lessons from 9:30 a.m. until noon starting on Jan. 15 (postponed from Jan. 8 starting date because of lack of snow), and includes four optional race days. The cost is $105 for the lessons, plus $25 for a United States Ski Association membership and $20 per family for Juneau Ski Club membership. Avalanche awareness classes: Upcoming avalanche awareness classes from the Southeast Alaska Avalanche Center are Juneau Level I, Jan. 12-15; Juneau Level II, March 2-5; and Juneau Snowmachine, Jan. 5 classroom and Jan. 6-7 in the field. Mini-workshops for snowmachiners are Haines Snowmachine/Level I, March 16-18, and Petersburg Snowmachine/Level I, Feb. 2-4. Special snowmachiner discount this year. Info: Bill Glude, 586-5606.

Juneau Parks and Recreation adult coed volleyball team registration: Meet at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Juneau Assembly Chambers (155 South Seward Street). Late registration will be taken at the Juneau Parks and Recreation office from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 (a $10 late fee will be charged). League space is limited. Southeast Roadrunners potluck and membership meeting: Meet at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Douglas Island Pink and Chum (DIPAC) hatchery. Open Gyms

Youth open gyms: From 8-11 p.m. on Saturdays (1/6) at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, and from 8-11 p.m. on Fridays (1/5) at Floyd Dryden Middle School. No cost for students grades 5-12. Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms: at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, Cost is $4. From 7-9 p.m. on Sundays (1/7 and 1/14) and Fridays (1/5 and 1/12).
