Yes, Juneau needed a new high school a number of years ago.
Juneau-Douglas High School was never intended to handle its current enrollment. The Mat-Su valleys have three high schools serving the same population Juneau has. It is a fact that smaller schools provide a higher-quality education and are easier to administer. The additional costs of operation are minimal.
Juneau is not big enough to have two schools. With a new school will come different athletic teams. Juneau's population would not be able to support both schools and their athletic teams.
Fund raising is not the only issue. This town has more than 31,000 people. When you split the town in two by creating two high schools, competition gets stiff, tempers rise, gangs could be created, may not be a pretty sight.
