In season: Black bear (Sept. 1-June 30), brown bear (Sept. 15-Dec. 31, March 15-May 31), wolf (Aug. 1-April 30, Douglas Island closed), wolverine (Nov. 10-Feb. 15), and red and blue king crab (Oct. 1-March 31). Jan. 9: Juneau Audubon Society meeting, 7:30 p.m., Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Retired U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service waterfowl biologist Jim King slide show on the banding of 18,000 ducks in the early 1960s.

Jan. 10: Juneau Alpine Club members Greg Bledsoe and Tim Arness present program about the club's 2002 Juneau Icefield crossing, 7 p.m., Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.
