Money for Starr could have been spent better

Posted: Friday, January 05, 2007

I find it strange that the Juneau School District can justify money to pay a high-powered lawyer like Ken Starr to take something that is old news and happened almost seven years ago to the U.S. Supreme Court, when it pays substitutes at a lower rate that elsewhere in the state. Teachers and support staff are not paid nearly what they deserve. Nothing is being done about the problem of drugs in our high school, and more funding is badly needed for special education programs. I think the money spent on Starr could have been used in more timely and wise way. It is not important this long after the incident in which a student displayed an inappropriate slogan at a school function. Even though I did not approve of the student's behavior, I feel that the incident is in the past, and we need to move on with the business at hand - the education of our youth.
