Juneau Symphony to perform Feb. 3, 4

The Juneau Symphony will perform "Winter Wonders," featuring the Sibelius' violin concerto with guest artist Annaliesa Place and Stravinsky's Petrouchka, at 8 p.m. Feb. 3 and 3 p.m. Feb. 4in the Juneau-Douglas High School auditorium.

The orchestra's first rehearsal is at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 in the JDHS band room. Conductor Kyle Wiley Pickett invites new musicians to join the ensemble with current openings in all sections: woodwind, brass, strings and percussion.

Girl Scouts start taking cookie orders Saturday

More than 800 Girl Scouts throughout Southeast Alaska will be taking orders Saturday through Jan. 28 for the 2007 Girl Scout cookie program. They will deliver cookies in March.

All Girl Scout Cookies cost $3.50 per box, and 50 cents goes directly to the Girl Scout troop for activities throughout the year, including camps, field trips, troop activities, and community service projects.

This year, eight types of cookies will be available, including a new sugar-free cookie called "Little Brownies."
