Former Juneau resident Celeste Castro Peguero died Jan. 1, 2008, from the effects of Parkinson's disease.

She was born Feb. 8, l946, in the Dominican Repulic. She chose to give up a successful career in opthamology to come to the United States. She resided in Juneau for 20 years, leaving to live in New Jersey, with her family, as her illness became more involved.
While living in Juneau, the joys of her life included becoming a U.S. citizen, her human and canine friends, the children at Mendenhall River Community School and the quietness and beauty of Juneau, her family said.
Her family said she was much loved and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her Juneau family, Jackie, Shauna and Ross Sparks.
