Northwest hospitals short on blood

Posted: Friday, January 07, 2000

The American Red Cross in the Pacific Northwest can meet only half of hospitals' need for blood, and is seeking donors.

``We especially need Type O donors, and donors with all blood types to make and keep their donation appointments,'' said Lana Tolls, executive director of the Southeast Alaska chapter.

The Juneau blood donor center is adding Thursday, Jan. 20, as a donor day. Mondays and Tuesdays are the regular donor days. Donors must be at least 17, in good health and weigh at least 105 pounds. To make an appointment, call 463-5713.

``If your company or church would like to sponsor blood drives, this is the time for them to come on board to help save lives,'' Tolls said.
