Investigation continues into shooting

ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers are continuing their investigation into the death of an Upper Kalskag boy killed in an accidental shooting on New Year's Eve.

The accident occurred while 13-year-old Jason Timothy Evan and his 7-year-old brother were alone in the home. Jason was shot with a Rueger rifle. By the time the village health aide arrived, the boy was dead.

Troopers originally had thought the boy's parents were playing bingo when the boy was killed from a single gunshot wound to his chest.

But further investigation revealed that the boy's mother was at bingo and his father was out marking trail. A teenage daughter was left with the boys but had stepped out of the house when the accident occurred.
