JUNEAU - Gov. Sarah Palin has appointed Juneau's Robert S. Peterson to the Alaska Safety Advisory Council.

Peterson has been the Southeast representative for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302 since 2006. He previously worked as street maintenance supervisor for the city of Fairbanks for two years and for 20 years before that around Alaska as a heavy equipment mechanic and operator.

The 14-member council seeks to reduce the risks of accidental death and injury in Alaska, working with private and public organizations to direct resources to improve safety and makes recommendations to the governor and Legislature.
