ANCHORAGE - Anchorage police say a bearded man robbed a bank and escaped in a sport utility vehicle.

Police responded to a report of the robbery at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Northrim Bank at Spenard Road and West 27th Avenue.

The suspect was a thin, white man between 5-feet-8 and 6 feet tall.

He wore tan coveralls and a dark, knit hat with a bill.

Police say the man was in his late 40s or early 50s. He wore glasses and had a scruffy beard of mixed blond and gray hair.

After the robbery, the suspect drove east on 27th Avenue and north on Arctic Boulevard in an "older model" dark green sport utility vehicle.

The FBI also is investigating.
