Many Empire readers obviously are ignorant of the scale of logging on the Tongass National Forest. Under the Tongass Land Management Plan finalized two years ago, only 500,000 of almost 17 million acres was open to logging. The Empire does not understand the issue. The roadless controversy is not about logging. It is about a federal land management agency and the politicians that oversee it living up to their agreement with all the people of Southeast Alaska. The White House and the Forest Service have broken those agreements and our trust.
Is Riverbend a public day care? The three R's are not three recesses and a snack time. Please teach. I don't need a recipe book. I need a kid that can read.
I've been looking for a place to live for me and my two dogs. You'd think that in Alaska where so many people have dogs they'd offer more housing that allows pets. My dogs are sweet and well-mannered and they need a place to live, too. It's not like they're gong to destroy any place we live. I'd be willing to pay an extra deposit.
Thanks to the gentleman who stopped and helped me after my Blazer ran out of gas along the freeway during rush hour last Friday evening. I had been there for over a half-hour while hundreds of cars, including a police car, drove by. This man stopped and asked if I needed help, then went and got gas for me and put it in the car and made sure it started. You were an answer to prayer.
People need to remember that Bob Loescher holds a couple of political positions, so is a politician. When he puts something into the Juneau Empire it usually is to do quality control among his political friends and may not have anything to do with reality.
Dwight Perkins has been a friend of my family for years. I don't believe a darn thing being said about him.
In regards to the person suggesting additional vendors on the eighth floor of the SOB, have you noticed the snack bar or the coffee cart? Perhaps you can stop by and see what we have to offer.
I have a question for 80 percent of Juneau drivers. If it's OK for you to pick and choose which traffic laws you're going to follow, is it OK for me to pick and choose which laws I want to follow? Like, say, breaking and entering, robbery?
I'm disappointed in our local so-called rock station. They no longer offer the variety they used to have. They used to have some really interesting night jocks, and I miss the Grateful Dead Hour. Way to go KTOO for offering true variety and local opinion.
The $1,000 bonus paid to our city employees is living proof that corruption and Jimmy Hoffa are alive and doing well in Juneau. It is time for property owners to wake up and speak out.
Just like in the 1950s everybody who didn't agree with the status quo was a communist, now everybody who doesn't agree with the extreme left wing of the Democratic Party - as if there's another portion of it - is a racist. This has to do with the attacks Democrats will make on Ashcroft and Rumsfeld.
Would somebody please give Donn Liston a job so he can quit writing all those letters to the editor?
