Another effort to rid the state of Alaska's multi-million dollar corporate jet through the Internet auction site eBay has failed.

The state had wanted about $2.5 million for plane, but the top offer was just over $2 million. This was the second failed attempt to dump the controversial jet on eBay since it was put up for bid last month.

Department of Public Safety officials and Gov. Sarah Palin's office could not immediately be reached for comment on what steps the state would take next.

Former Gov. Frank Murkowski bought the 23-year-old Westwind II for nearly $2.7 million against the wishes of many political leaders. It became a high-profile campaign issue in his bid for a second term. Palin, who promised to sell the jet, trounced him in the primary.

The state has used eBay in the past to sell other assets, including the Bartlett, a ferry in the Alaska Marine Highway fleet, as well as other aircraft.
