JUNEAU - Registration for the Juneau Ski Club's Mitey Mites program is underway now, and the program kicks off this weekend. Mitey Mites introduces young skiers between the ages of 7 and 12 to ski racing in small groups with certified professional instructors, with the objectives of improving skiing skills and having fun. The focus is on fun, safety, and learning the basics of racing.
The goals of Mitey Mites are to instill fun and enthusiasm for the sport of alpine skiing, utilize modern methodologies to teach basic skiing fundamentals including the use of coach directed free skiing in all snow conditions and terrain, provide an introduction to gate training and racing, and provide a coach directed team atmosphere that allows the athlete to develop and learn with peers of similar age and ability.
The Mitey Mites program runs 10 weeks, 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday mornings from Jan. 10 to March 14. If there is enough interest, a Sunday morning session may be offered. Registration forms and information packets can be picked up at Foggy Mountain Sports, the Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, Play It Again Sports, the Fieldhouse, or Eaglecrest. Registrations can be mailed, dropped off at Eaglecrest this week, or brought to the first session. If registering at the first session, come 30 minutes early.
