Gabe Kennedy graduated from the Information Technology and Communication Systems Program at Perry Technical Institute on Dec. 17. Established in 1939, Perry Technical Institute is a private, non-profit educational institution in Yakima, Wash.

Air Force Airman Nolan R. McCants graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

McCants completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

McCants is the son of Dianne McCants of Cimarron St., Richland, Wash., and brother of Lindsay Salisbury of Juneau. McCants graduated in 2010 from Richland High School.


Martha Penrose, 80, celebrated 25 years of employment with Alaska Electric Light & Power Company on Dec. 17. She has not yet announced her date of retirement. Sen. Dennis Egan, Mayor Bruce Botehlo, Representative Kathy Mu┐oz and Deputy Chief of Staff for Gov. Sean Parnell David Stone celebrated with her at a luncheon, held at AEL&P, catered by Martha’s son, Dan Penrose, owner of the Udder Culture.
