Ongoing/Meetings

Mighty Mite youth ski team registration: Registration is open for this winter's Mighty Mite ski team program for skiers ages 6-12 years old. The lessons at Eaglecrest Ski School focus on skier technique and introduce the children to racing. The 10-week program features Saturday lessons from 9:30 a.m. until noon starting on Jan. 15 (postponed from Jan. 8 starting date because of lack of snow), and includes four optional race days. The cost is $105 for the lessons, plus $25 for a United States Ski Association membership and $20 per family for Juneau Ski Club membership. Avalanche awareness classes: Upcoming avalanche awareness classes from the Southeast Alaska Avalanche Center are Juneau Level I, Jan. 12-15; Juneau Level II, March 2-5; and Juneau Snowmachine, Jan. 5 classroom and Jan. 6-7 in the field. Juneau Parks and Recreation adult coed volleyball team registration: Meet at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Juneau Assembly Chambers (155 South Seward Street). Late registration will be taken at the Juneau Parks and Recreation office from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 (a $10 late fee will be charged). League space is limited. Juneau-Douglas High School soccer team's indoor soccer mini camp: Meet at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School on Monday, Jan. 15, for the fourth annual version of this camp for players ages 5-12 years old. Players age 5-7 meet from 9 a.m. to noon, players age 8-12 meet from 1-4 p.m. An advanced session will take place in the afternoon. Registration opens 15 minutes before each session and costs $20 a player. Bring your own gym equipment (but not your own ball), including shin guards and a water bottle. Juneau 4-H cross-country ski program: Meet from 1:30-3 p.m. every Sunday at locations TBA (call the University of Alaska Southeast Cooperative Extension Service for the location of that week's outing). The program is open to skiers in grades K-12, and parents are invited to participate. Membership fee for 4-H program is $6. Open Gyms

Youth open gyms: From 8-11 p.m. on Saturdays (1/13) at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, and from 8-11 p.m. on Fridays (1/12) at Floyd Dryden Middle School. No cost for students grades 5-12. Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms: at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, Cost is $4. From 7-9 p.m. on Sundays (1/14) and Fridays (1/12).
