Juneau Student Symphony calls for musicians of all ages

Posted: Sunday, January 10, 2010

JUNEAU - The Juneau Student Symphony is recruiting musicians of all ages, 8 to 88, to join them in rehearsals for their winter concert. They will be rehearsing the waltz from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty ballet, Bizet's Carmen ballet suite and Viotti's "Violin Concerto 23." Dancers from Juneau Dance Unlimited will join them for the ballet pieces, and 10-year-old violinist Finn Sinclair will play the solo in the concerto.

"This is gorgeous music and it will be really fun to collaborate with Finn and JDU," said conductor Rick Trostel.

There are several opportunities in the next ten days to join the orchestra or just to find out more information. For more information, visit the Web site, juneausymphony.org/studentsymphony. You may contact Rick Trostel directly at 723-3564 or thrushhill@ak.net.

Also, there will be an open reading rehearsal at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at the Juneau-Douglas High School band room for anyone interested in joining the orchestra. This is an opportunity for musicians to test-drive the orchestra and just have a good time making music.
