KODIAK — The Kodiak Police Department is hoping to get a few good tips.
Police say phone calls to the anonymous tip line have declined to a trickle during the last few years. Now, they are encouraging tipsters to send tips via the Internet or text message.
Kodiak Police Chief T.C. Kamai says tips traditionally have been very valuable to law enforcement, particularly when it comes to illegal drugs.
TipSoft was launched without any publicity last week, and has already received a pair of tips. Much like the existing telephone-based Crime Stoppers programs, the Kodiak Daily Mirror says the new system protects the identity of tipsters.
